Above large underwater mountains (seamounts), the surface of the ocean is actually higher than in surrounding areas. These seamounts actually increase gravity in the area, which attracts more water and causes sea level to be slightly higher. The changes in water height are measurable using radar on satellites.

bloglines vs bandwidth (rss blues)

i was reading this article about rss aggregators and bandwidth on scoble’s, and i just had to write this: bloglines is the best aggregator ever. not only for the user (can be accessed anyway) but for publishers. how is that? simple enough.

bloglines, like most aggregators, checks feeds once an hour, but it doesn’t need to check it for every user. so even if you have 1000 subscribers, you still get 1 request an hour.

that sounds fair enough for me. and robert should thank that, given he has 2901 bloglines subscribers at this exact moment (i’m one of those).

which takes us to the other reason bloggers should encourage the use of bloglines. they can see how many people is reading them from it. for those who complaint about trafic numbers and stuff.

i have succesfully installed and tested a wordpress (formerly cafelog)
weblog on this server, and i will soon be migrating from blogger to
it. just need to do some more tweaking and learn some about the
template sys.

well, i must say blogger’s posting interface sucks. it’s not ugly, and
actually it’s very clear and simple. but it’s too slow.
i tend to blog from slow computers on slow networks, and blogger is
slow enough for not letting me post. i can’t spend half an hour
waiting just to post a few lines.
thus i’m testing blogger’s mail-to-blog utility… if it works, gmail
will become my blogware…

new hosting

so…

the plot, as you may have noticed, experienced quite a long downtime; but now it’s back up and no longer hosted at dan’s evoex. i’m still in the uk, but now hosted at a free acount provided by the über cool guys from trash the system.

if anyone else is looking for a cool host, now you know where to go.

regular posting will go on from now on, expecting everything goes right. archives, however will probably suck cause i have to update all of the links and layouts… maybe i wont.

on vacation

chances are if you’re watching this site through internet explorer on mac os 9 or older, it will look horrible. i don’t know exactly why this happens, but i have my guess.

i will not fix that as i already had to hack my styles because of ie 6 windows, and i must say i don’t give shit about mac users. specially if they use internet explorer.

so if you have that problem get mac os x, that way you can switch to firebird. or simply blogline me.

no, i’m not reviving apple ads here. i don’t even liked that campaign, and i certainly ain’t a mac fan. it’s mozilla what we’re talking about here, mozilla firefox. and the switch is obviously from ms internet explorer to it. yeah, i know it’s been said before but it’s getting more and more critical every time: internet explorer is unsafe. it’s unsafe because it’s full with lots of little bugs that someone is eventually going to write an exploit for. we’ve all seen it before and it is going to continue. so what can we do? switch to the best browser ever. mozilla firefox.

caustic tech

i’ve been reading some of Philip Horwitz’ weblog “caustic tech“, and i must say it’s fun. ok, so it’s not plain fun, you need some knowledge on tech and web to understand it, but it’s not that difficult. the thing is that his sarcastic but centered view at things is not only fun to read but very interesting.

a few quotes from it:

“it should also come as no great surprise that BlunderMan is also the most technically incompetent motherfucker on the planet. despite his alleged 17 yrs of experince, it’s obvious that this fucker doesn’t know his ass from his elbow.”

dealing with these guys is the easiest…write enough gibberish to fill exactly 3 pages – make sure it has words in bold, words in italics, and some kind of bulleted list. (if you really want to wow the bastard, use a chart or two). after these 3 pages, go to the nearest printer, rip about 700 or so sheets out of it, and then, carefully place the first 2 out of the 3 pages on top of that monster pile of 700 sheets, while putting the 3rd page on the bottom of those 700 sheets of fury. once this garbage with the printer paper is finished, your ready to make the drop. put the whole thing in a binder (they really like 3 ring binders), and drop it off at the desired date and time. that’s it! you’re done!!

i am now the proud owner of a totally functional gmail bata account. and i had to do nothing for it. yeah, nothing.

remeber gmail swap? whell this guy gabriel flores contacted me and gave an invite for nothing.
